07/05/2012 - ROAL Motorsport had a partially positive weekend in Budapest, stage of the fifth round of the FIA WTCC 2012.

After missing Q2 in qualifying held Saturday, the two drivers of the team produced a good recover in race one. Tom Coronel, thanks to a series of overtaking maneuvers managed to get from the back up to the sixth position and harvest in this way some points for the classification. More conservative was Alberto Cerqui's race instead as he started from the back and managed to complete a flawless performance taking him to the final thirteenth place.

Less lucky was race two indeed: Coronel has been involved in a contact with a rival in the initial stages and this damaged the intercooler system of his BMW 320TC. The Dutch driver managed to keep going but the unavoidable performance degradation of his engine did not allow him to go beyond the twelfth place. An electric problem made Cerqui's car stall on the grid which required the intervention of marshal to push it to the pits. The technicians of the team started the engine but two minutes into the race and this compromised the outcome of Alberto's race that was ended in eighteenth position.

Coronel is currently fourth in the classification with 97 lenghts, equal on points with Gabriele Tarquini (Seat). In the Yokohama Drivers' Trophy Cerqui is currently seventh at 27, with the same score of Alex Macdowall (Chevrolet) and at 9 points to Mehdi Bennani (BMW). In the Yokohama Teams' Trophy ROAL Motorsport keeps its lead with 79 points, 12 clear of Tuenti Racing Team.

Roberto Ravaglia (ROAL Motorsport, Team Principal):
"Coronel has often accustomed us to great performances and also in this occasion he has used all his experience recovering in the first race from the back up to a very handy sixth place. Cerqui is learning the circuits where he has not been racing before; he defended himself well in race one, but has been penalyzed by a technical problem in race two". .
