(6 June 2013, Hong Kong) World Tour Car Championship race driver Darryl O’Young is confident and motivated ahead of the all-new Race of Russia this weekend in Moscow, as the 2013 WTCC season reaches its halfway point. O’Young, who races in a BMW 320TC this season, now sits sixth in the Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy standings with 29 points after the first five rounds.
Speaking of his progress thus far this season, O’Young, who will return to the Le Mans 24 Hours in two weeks’ time after a four-year absence with the AF Corse Ferrari team, admits there are some mixed feelings on this season of WTCC.
“From one perspective, I am extremely happy with my performance and how we have progressed as a team. On the other hand, the results have been disappointing since my crash in Slovakiaring and it seems like I have been on the back foot since that race. But I am ready to bounce back and turn my season around. The extra free practice on Friday in Russia will be very beneficial for me and the team to progress and I am super motivated to get my season going in the right direction,” said the Hong Kong-based touring car and sportscar driver.
The Race of Russia will be making its WTCC debut this weekend. Two races of 13 laps each will be staged on the 3.931 kilometers long Moscow Raceway, which opened only last July. Meanwhile, WTCC has also made changes to the remaining race calendar, replacing the Race of Brazil with the Race of Argentina in early August, which will also be making its first WTCC appearance.
