Tiago Monteiro will spend the coming weekend at one of his favorite circuits, Spa-Francorchamps. Racing in Belgium has been kind to the Honda driver in the past with podium finishes on the Zolder circuit in both 2010 and 2011. This weekend's trip to Belgium will see him visit the Spa-Francorchamps circuit for the European finale leg of the 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship before it switches into the second half of the season. After 12 races, Tiago has 4 podiums and one fastest lap to his name and the Portuguese driver is now aiming to continue his good run.

At Spa, where he last raced back in 2006 while participating in the Formula One World Championship, Tiago will start with a handicap: a five place grid penalty for race one after being given a penalty in Russia for a coming together with one of his rivals. "We will have to rethink our strategy. It will be hard to get a good result in the first race because of this penalty and we will therefore focus primarily on the second event," said Tiago. "We will try to adapt our strategy to target pole position for race two, even if that can be a little risky."

On a technical and fast track, it is difficult to predict what the performance of the Honda Civic will be. "On one hand, the long straights might not be good to us but on the other, the tight corners should see us excel," explains Tiago. "But it will only be after first practice that we will know where we stand compared to the competition. It's true, we have been more competitive in recent weeks, but we have no new major upgrades for this round."

"The goal is to get a good start and fight for the podium, but we must not lose sight of the fact that finishing in the top ten would be a good result," concluded Tiago.

The Spa-Francorchamps races will be broadcasted live on Eurosport, Sunday, June 22 at 11:30 and 12:30.
