Campos Racing to run Chevrolet and SEAT

Campos Racing confirmed the plans of stepping up its programme in the FIA World Touring Car Championship.

The Spanish outfit directed by former Formula One driver Adrián Campos and managed on the track by Joan Orús will field two of the new RML-built Chevrolet Cruze cars for Hugo Valente and Dušan Borković.

Valente, 21-year old from France, winner of the 1992 French SEAT Cup, faces his second season in WTCC; his best result in 2013 was eighth in Argentina.

Borković, the first Serbian driver to take part in WTCC is a newcomer to the championship; after winning the FIA European Hillclimbing title for Category 1 in 2012, he competed in the 2013 European Touring Car Cup winning one race and finishing third in the S2000 class.

Borković: A now-or-never opportunity

A few weeks after announcing his plans to race in the 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship with Campos Racing, Dušan Borković revealed he will drive one of the team’s new RML-built Chevrolet Cruze cars.

“The original plan was to compete in the WTCC Yokohama Trophy at the wheel of a 2013 SEAT León. However, recently the team offered me to drive a Chevrolet in the championship’s elite class, competing against the top touring car aces. This was a now-or-never opportunity and I didn’t have to think too much before I agreed with the proposal,” Borković said.

The 29-year old Borković will be the first Serbian driver to race in WTCC. After winning five national titles, in 2012 he became FIA European Hillclimbing champion for Category 1.

He spent the 2013 season in the FIA European Car Cup, competing in the S2000 class at the wheel of a SEAT León first and a Chevrolet Cruze later. He won one race at the Salzburgring and was classified third in the final standings.

Valente: I am overly excited!

Hugo Valente is facing his second season in the FIA World Touring Car Championship and with Campos Racing. After making his maiden appearance at the Shanghai event in 2012, Valente came back this year from the fourth race meeting at Budapest and took part in all the remaining rounds except Russia and Japan, driving one of the Spanish team’s SEAT León. In 2014 he will be at the wheel of a Chevrolet Cruze, teaming up with Dušan Borković.

“I am really happy to have signed with Campos Racing again. It is an experienced team and I am overly excited with the idea of driving the new-specification Chevrolet. In 2013 I learnt a lot in the SEAT and now I face the challenge to get used to a faster car and be quick with a small amount of testing before the first race.

It is a privilege for me being the third French driver in WTCC alongside the likes of Sébastien Loeb and Yvan Muller. It will be tough to beat them in their Citroën cars, but my aim is to keep on learning and improving, and make it to Q2 again. With the reverse grid, who knows what may happen…” said Valente.
