TeamVodafone search for soft tyre set-up in Darwin practice
Soft tyre life was the focus for TeamVodafone at Hidden Valley Raceway today, the team used the final two sessions of the day to find an optimal set-up for Darwin’s hot conditions.
Running on used soft tyres throughout both sessions, Craig Lowndes topped the timesheets in Practice 3 and finished the final session 15th, ending the day 11th on combined times.
Teammate Jamie Whincup worked to a similar strategy, the defending Champion utilising Practice 3 and 4 to test variables of the Commodore against tyre degradation. Whincup was third quickest in Practice 3 and finished the final session 13th.
Car #888 co-driver Warren Luff joined TeamVodafone for today’s opening practice sessions and set the fastest time overall for both Practice 1 and 2.
With Whincup’s co-driver Paul Dumbrell unable to attend the Hidden Valley Event, Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Dunlop Series pilot Scott Pye took to the wheel of the #1 Commodore for the opening two sessions, finishing 20th and 17th respectively on used hard compound tyres.
Tomorrow will see the V8 Supercars back on track for Qualifying at 11am (NTST) followed by the Top Ten Shootout at 12.55pm (NTST). Race 12 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series will commence at 3.35pm (NTST).
