On the back of a career-best third in the championship, in what was his last season with Garry Rogers Motorsport before he heads to DJR Team Penske for 2017, McLaughlin was recognised as one of the sport’s true stars for a second time with the prestigious Barry Sheene Medal.
The Awards Gala also saw engineering legends Ross and Jim Stone inducted into the Supercars Hall of Fame.
The Stones helped form Alan Jones Racing in the mid-1990s, before forming Stone Brothers Racing in 1998. They went on to win the Bathurst 1000 in their first year as full-blown team owners, and enjoyed a three-year stretch of winning titles on the trot with Marcos Ambrose and Russell Ingall between 2003 and 2005.
The Stones have also enjoyed success as talent spotters, bringing both McLaughlin and newly-crowned Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen into the sport.
They sold their team to Erebus at the end of 2012.
