After two years of running the Vento cars, the Indian arm of the German manufacturer decided to switch cars for the new season.

As a result, the one-make series will feature the race version of the Ameo road cars, which was launched in the Indian market earlier this year.

The drivers' applying to take part in the championship will go though a special selection programme to be held at the Indi Karting Track in Pune, between December 17-18.

“Since we first introduced Motorsport in India in 2010, we have had the good fortune to see the landscape evolve by leaps and bounds, not just from a talent point of view but also in terms of the ecosystem that supports it," Sirish Vissa, head of VW Motorsport India, said.

"As we begin to prepare for the next season, we have more than one reason to be excited with the change from the Vento to the Ameo and are looking forward to the same.

“With registrations opening today [October 26], we are waiting with eager anticipation to engage with India’s young aspiring racers and find the hidden gems that will help accelerate the sport to the next level in the new year," he added.

The format for the Ameo Cup will remain as per the Vento Cup, with races scheduled at Kari Motor Speedway, Madras Motor Race Track and Buddh International Circuit.

The grid will see a maximum of 20 drivers in equally powered machinery and the drivers can apply for it here.
