BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 18) – Although the NHRA Full Throttle Series regular season schedule is getting smaller, Larry Morgan, driver of the Lucas Oil Pro Stock Ford Mustang, has one big goal on his mind -- make the Countdown to the Championship.

"Every point counts for us right now," Morgan said. "We've got two races to get ourselves around one guy. But we're making good power right now and we've been running well, so I'm excited to see what happens."

Heading in to this weekend's Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, Morgan is currently 11th in the Pro Stock standings, 31 points behind 10th-place Ron Krisher. Ronnie Humphrey is a dozen points behind Morgan, making the battle for final playoff spot a three-man race.

"We've just got to go more rounds than these other guys the next two races, it's as plain at that," Morgan said. "The key is to get this car up in the top half in qualifying. That will give us a big boost when Sunday rolls around. Then we need to win some rounds.

"We've lost a few rounds this year by a couple thousandths of a second this year, so a little luck won't hurt us at all either."

Morgan has two career final-round appearances in Brainerd.

If making the Countdown isn't enough motivation, that fact that it's his sponsor's title race gives Morgan an extra little drive.

"I'm excited to go to Brainerd," Morgan said. "The fans there are as wild and enthusiastic as any fans out there, and they love Pro Stock in Minnesota. I'd love to put my Lucas Oil Ford Mustang in the winner's circle for them. It would mean a lot for my team this year and to Forrest and Charlotte Lucas, who have stood by me and helped me out for a long time."
