Del Worsham enters the 47th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals, the last of six races in the Countdown to the Championship NHRA Playoffs, in second place in the NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel point standings. He trails points leader Spencer Massey by two points and leads third-place Antron Brown by 12 points.

Worsham enters the final race of the season just two points out of the Top Fuel points lead, and while Worsham has never won a championship in NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing, he has a team of championship-winning people on his side. Al-Anabi Racing team manager Alan Johnson and crew chiefs Brian Husen and Jason McCulloch have won some exciting championships at the season’s final race.

Worsham prior to Pomona: “I’m excited that this whole Full Throttle Championship is coming down to Pomona and that we have a chance win the championship. I like our Al-Anabi team’s chances. We won the last race in Las Vegas so we’re coming in with some momentum, and I think the fans are going to get their money’s worth this weekend.

“I took all of last weekend to chill out and enjoy some time with my family. Monday morning, I started focusing on the events leading up to the race this weekend. Now I’m back into race mode. Pomona is a hometown race for me so I know we’ll have a lot of family and friends there. This race has always been special to me because back when I was 20 years old, the Winston Finals at Pomona was my first race. Now, it’s like I’ve come full circle because what could end up being the biggest race of my career is happening where it all started 21 years ago.

“This whole 22-race season is all coming down to the last race of the season, and I’m looking forward to it. I’ve had a lot of success through the years, but I’ve never been at this level before. For Sheik Khalid to give me this opportunity, and for Alan Johnson to believe in me, for Brian (crew chief Brian Husen) and our Al- Anabi crew to build this car and this team, I’m a lucky guy.”

2010 NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon enters the 47th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals, the last of six races in the Countdown to the Championship NHRA Playoffs, in fourth place in the NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel point standings. He trails third–place Antron Brown by 30 points and leads fifth-place Tony Schumacher by 92 points entering the final race of the season. Dixon is 44 points out of first place.

Dixon prior to Pomona: “We definitely still have a great shot at successfully defending our championship. That being said, we have three cars ahead of us that are really good. We have to work hard and do well in qualifying, and we have to work hard and do well on race day and see where we stack up Sunday night.

“We always go up for every run no different from any other run, but the big difference this weekend is that every run will be under a microscope with everybody watching. Every point is really important, and that’s pretty much it in a nutshell. It would be really nice to be able to get ourselves under 40 points out of the lead going into race day. That would be really helpful. Then we need to win the race - that’s the bottom line. We have to go in there, do our best and hope we are at our best that weekend and see how it all shakes out. I know the Al-Anabi team is extremely capable of doing that.

“Everybody on our Al-Anabi team has a lot of experience to take into race day on Sunday. They know what to worry about and what not to worry about. Our guys have won championships just about every possible way you can win. There isn’t a whole lot that I think our team is worried about, wondering about or thinking about. It’s just a matter of executing. I know that all of us on our Al-Anabi team will do our best to make Sheik Khalid and the people of Qatar proud of our efforts.”
