NASCAR drivers whip around the track at nearly 200 miles an hour. This high-speed, high-pressure and high-stakes lifestyle can be dangerous and stressful. For several years, Billy Mauldin and Kyle Froman have been ministering to the NASCAR community – everyone from the drivers, the pit crew to the media – through the organization Motor Racing Outreach. The pair not only loves the NASCAR way of life, but being able to use something like a high-speed sporting event as an opportunity to share the gospel. Now, they are teaming up with NASCAR Hall-of-Famer and lead NASCAR sports analyst Darrell Waltrip in their new book The Race: Living Life on Track (B&H Publishing Group, May 2014) to show others how to use their professional life – whether it be on a racetrack or in a cubicle – for the glory of God.

Mauldin, the president and CEO of Motor Racing Outreach, and Froman, the director of development for Motor Racing Outreach, wrote The Race to help readers uncover their personal mission by encouraging them to prepare for, receive it and then live it out faithfully on mission. They walk readers through key areas of their journey, including recognizing a calling, establishing community, understanding the importance of patience and identifying exactly where God wants them to serve. The Race offers biblical insights to help those from all different professions – pro-sports and beyond – take full advantage of their workplace to touch the lives of others.

Throughout the book, Waltrip, a three-time NASCAR cup series champion who has won more than 800 races over his 29-year NASCAR career, offers personal stories on what it takes to win “the race,” and gives fans an inside look at not only his profession but his personal belief in God that keeps him focused on his career, and most importantly, on his personal mission, and shows readers how they can do so as well.

“So many people feel because they have not found themselves called to full-time ministry that they are in some way less equipped than those who are,” Mauldin says. “The Race challenges everyone to rethink this mindset, and see that God can use them, if they are willing, at wherever they may be in life.”

Froman and Mauldin also started the The Tentmaker Revolution, which encourages Christians from all walks of life to live on mission full time, even if they don’t work in ministry. The Tentmaker Revolution unites men and women who recognize their workplace as their personal mission field, and believe they are uniquely positioned by God to be a part of His work in the lives of others. Froman and Mauldin encourage others to share their own tentmaker stories by using the hashtag #tentmaker on Twitter.

Billy Mauldin is the president and CEO of Motor Racing Outreach and has served as chaplain for various racing series including the Unlimited Hydroplane Racing series, American Motorcycle Association and the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide series. Mauldin also served as spiritual advisor for the contestants of “American Idol XIII.” A lifelong resident of Charlotte, N.C., Mauldin is married to Julie and together they have four kids, Thor, Titan, Roxy and Daisy. Kyle Froman is the director of development at Motor Racing Outreach, overseeing a network of 40 associate chaplains and also serves as external donor and relational development. Froman currently lives in Spring Hill, Tenn., and is married to Michelle. The couple has two boys, Micah and Kaleb. Darrell Waltrip is the winner of 84 career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series™ races and a three-time champion. He currently serves as the lead analyst for NASCAR on FOX. He was recently inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame and is the author of several books. For more about The Tentmaker Revolution, visit www.tentmakerrevolution.com.
