Jeff Gordon honored with Myers Brothers Award in Las Vegas
Gordon beat out fellow finalist and NASCAR team owner Richard Childress for the 2012 honor.

Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, was named recipient of the 2012 National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) Myers Brothers Award on Thursday in the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas. The award is given to recognize those "who have provided outstanding contributions to the sport of stock car racing," according to a release from NMPA.
"Jeff Gordon is an ambassador for NASCAR," NMPA President Rea White said. "He has not only brought excitement to the sport on the track, but has brought awareness and aid to the children who most need it. He is truly a champion in every respect."
In his racing career, Gordon is a four-time Cup level champion, winning titles in 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2001. Since beginning his Cup career in the final race of the 1992 season, Gordon has posted 87-career wins, all with Hendrick Motorsports.
The Myers Brothers Award has been given out yearly since 1958 and is named after southeastern stock car legends Billy and Bobby Myers. The recipient of the award each year is voted on by NMPA members.
