Engine woes halt Kvapil's charge in Phoenix

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (November 11, 2013) - Travis Kvapil and the No. 93 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 41st at Phoenix International Raceway. After starting the race with his car a bit too tight, the team adjusted the balance of the car putting Kvapil in position for the lucky dog award. However, only laps after calling into his BK Racing team to report climbing temperatures, the engine expired on the No. 93 machine bringing an early end to the race for the Dr Pepper team.

After logging practice speeds inside the top 30, Kvapil rolled off 31st for the Advocare 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. The driver called into his crew early in the race to report a tight racecar. Two caution periods provided the team the opportunity they needed to adjust on their Camry and get Kvapil in position to race for the lucky dog award.

Around lap 120, Kvapil called into his team to report that his Dr Pepper Toyota Camry was running hot and the team immediately devised a plan to put in motion when they were next able to work on the car. However, the BK Racing team never had that opportunity as Kvapil's engine expired while racing in the 30th position after completing just 129 laps. Unable to return to competition, Kvapil was scored with a 41st place finish.

"We had a good racecar with our No 93 Dr Pepper Camry this weekend," commented Kvapil. "Unfortunately, the results don't reflect our performance this weekend since our engine expired so early in the event. We had our work cut out for us racing the No. 88 and No. 11 for the lucky dog position, but we had our car handling the way we needed to make up ground on the racetrack. I'm looking forward to the final race of the season next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. My team built us a great car and we're looking forward to finishing out the season strong."
