Coming off his best finish of the season and 16th top-five finish of his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career, Marcos Ambrose and the No. 9 Richard Petty Motorsports team will bring the logo of DEWALT on the hood with them to the Auto Club Speedway in California this Sunday. Ambrose raced the STANLEY Ford to a fifth-place finish Sunday in Bristol and now is looking to get back-to-back top five finishes, this time with DEWALT as his primary sponsor. In the summer of 2012, Ambrose rallied off three consecutive top-five finishes and is looking for that streak again.
Ambrose is now 15th in Sprint Cup standings, and with 16 drivers getting into the new 'Chase' format, Ambrose is in position now to make a push into a playoff spot.
The team heads to California and will make their fourth start with Ambrose at the track. The team is looking to improve on a 21st-place finish and 13th-best starting spot together. With the success at Bristol, the team has confidence in better results. Before 400 miles on Sunday, Ambrose will slow down and take time to read the book, LEFTY AND THE RADTASTIC ROAD RALLY Sunday morning.Parents and children are invited to Lefty's Kids Club at the California Speedway for the special appearance by Ambrose. The reading will take place at 8:45 a.m. Sunday morning and fans are encouraged to contact California Speedway for more information.
"With this new 'Chase' format, you just don't know how it's going to shake out, but if we get ourselves a win, it takes care of a lot. At the same time, we need to put ourselves in the best point position too so we can possibly grab a spot that way. Right now, we're really close. There is still a lot of time, and a lot of things can happen, but we're not in a bad position after Bristol.
"We have a lot of confidence that we can continue this level of performance. California is a tough track, really fast with a lot of grooves, but we're ready to step it up there and get a good finish. We haven't had the results we have wanted there, but we've put in work with these new rules to get better. I know the guys will be busy this weekend so we get the best car possible for Sunday."
