Misano MotoGP: Marquez goes quickest, crashes in warm-up

Marquez ended the session less than a tenth up on Valentino Rossi, with poleman Jorge Lorenzo not far off in fifth.

Overcast conditions made for a much cooler track for warm-up than on Saturday, although the clouds did noticeably begin to dissipate in the latter stages of the 20-minute session.

Lorenzo was the first to dip into the 1m33s margin, setting what would be his best lap in warm-up at a 1m33.369s slightly before halfway.

Shortly after that, Marquez went ahead of a 1m33.185s, and lowered the benchmark further to a 1m33.068s with his next effort.

Immediately after the setting the pace, the Spaniard had a difficult entry to Turn 1 and lost the front end of his Honda, hitting the deck as a result.

He was completely unhurt and managed to return to the pits in time to go out again for a couple more laps.

Rossi, who sat two tenths adrift of Marquez in the closing stages of the session, moved to 0.070s off at the chequered flag, with Michele Pirro taking P3 from Ducati teammate Andrea Dovizioso.

Lorenzo led Tech 3 Yamaha's Pol Espargaro in fifth, ahead of Suzuki duo Maverick Vinales and Aleix Espargaro, LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow and Avintia's Hector Barbera.

Apart from Marquez's crash, the only disruption in the session came courtesy of Yonny Hernandez's Ducati Desmosedici GP14, which appeared to drop oil at Turn 8 early in the session.
