Australian MotoGP: Rain cuts second practice short
MotoGP running has been cut short for the day at Phillip Island, wet weather causing the second practice session to be red-flagged and then cancelled.

The start of the session was delayed for 40 minutes as organisers waited for the track to dry out, but even once it did finally start, it was short-lived. Just 10 minutes into the session the rain returned, conditions worsening to a point where it was red-flagged with more than half an hour left to run.
Organisers then opted to cancel the session as conditions failed to improve.
Local star Jack Miller backed the decision to call off the rest of the day’s running, calling it a smart decision from officials.
“I don’t think it’s frustrating, it’s good for safety reason,” he said.
“We don’t need to be out there, it’s already a fast, scary circuit. This morning’s conditions were okay, but when you throw in this amount of water… already this morning at Turn 3 there was so much aquaplaning. It’s a smart decision.”
Out of those who did brave the conditions in the first few minutes, it was Ducati’s Hector Barbera who was fastest with a 1m51.958s. That left him two seconds clear of Aussie Mike Jones, while Tito Rabat, Danilo Petrucci, and Aleix Espargaro also set times.
Valentino Rossi completed two laps as well (with a best of 1m58.412s), as he looked to make up for losing the best of his running from FP1 thanks to a tyre infringement.
