Motorsport.com art director Eric Gilbert presents the photos that he actually uses as screen savers (and that he has actually shot, also). He presents those photos on his personal Facebook page and is now sharing them on Motorsport.com. Enjoy.
24 Hours of Le Mans, 2012-06-14. New waves.
I just so love this shot… Second year in a row that I do it. Seeing the whole field coming straight at you on the first lap of a qualifying session is an ethereal experience wherever you are, at Le Mans. But on the Mulsanne Straight (a.k.a. 'Ligne Droite des Hunaudières' in French), it is even more magical as the cars seem to be surfing the waves of that Départementale road turned race track for a week.
The waves are not only on the track, but also in the trees and in the flags held by the course marshals. They all wave in unison, seemingly to welcome the best prototypes and GTs on the planet to go as fast as they can on that epic straight. It may be insane, but we love it.
This year however, the whole beauty of it all was somewhat dampened by the road shoulders that were painted to a more common gray - they were previously red, like in red wine (kind of fitting, in the Loire region). And even worst were those horribles fences and their (even more horrible) green curtains. Might be a plus for safety, but visually, it was an aesthetic disaster.
