INNISFIL, ONT. – MDL Racing's inaugural partial season of Firestone Indy Lights action resumes this coming weekend (August 3-4), when the Canadian-based team takes to the renowned Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
As part of a planned program to gain valuable experience ahead of a full campaign in 2014, owner/driver Matthew Di Leo will be back behind the wheel for Round Nine, focused on showcasing his ever-growing talents, and making the most of past success in Ohio.
A newcomer to Indy Lights, having only contested two races, Di Leo and MDL Racing go into each event with one simple plan, learn as much as possible, and continually get better. Having done that to good effect thus far, the squad will have its first chance to race at a familiar track in its third-ever series event.
Widely-regarded as one of the top technical tracks, the 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio road course presents multiple challenges to both drivers and engineers. That being said, Di Leo enters the weekend confident he can make his mark.
The No. 56 RES Precast Inc./Praga/Mi-Jack Cranes/MDL Racing pilot has previously shown an affinity for the undulating track, standing on the USF2000 Championship podium last year via a runner-up result, and never finishing outside of the top-seven in his previous four USF2000 visits to the Ohio track.
Add in the fact MDL Racing enjoyed a strong test at Mid-Ohio earlier this year, and the stage is set for the lone owner/driver in the series score his best Indy Lights result to date.
"I'm excited to be racing at Mid-Ohio again!" stated Di Leo. "I feel confident that we can keep up with the fast guys during this round. MDL Racing has been getting stronger and stronger every time we've gone on track. I'm looking forward to a great weekend, and giving my sponsors RES Precast, Praga, and Mi-Jack Cranes a great result."
Di Leo and MDL Racing commence the pursuit of Firestone Indy Lights top honors at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Friday (August 2), with an afternoon practice session. A second practice run takes place on Saturday (August 3), prior to the lone qualifying session in the mid-afternoon. Round Nine is slated to commence at 12 noon on Sunday (August 4).
