Detroit – Next on the schedule for the Chevrolet Aero Kit with integrated V6 2.2-liter twin-turbocharged direct-injected engine teams and drivers is the 17-turn, 2.38-mile Barber Motorsports Park road course just east of Birmingham, Alabama. The track features 80 feet of elevation change that makes it a challenge for drivers.

Team Chevy started the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season with wins in two of the first three races: Juan Pablo Montoya scored the first victory for Team Chevy in 2015 in the debut race of the Chevrolet Aero Kit on the Streets of St. Petersburg, and Scott Dixon followed up with a win last week on the Streets of Long Beach.

Neither driver has been victorious in Alabama. Dixon has finished on the podium in all five races held at Barber including four consecutive second-place finishes at the 2.38-mile track.

Chevrolet has notched two poles and two victories in the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama since its successful 2012 debut of the 2.2-liter purpose-built engine fueled by E85. Teams also tested the new-for-2015 Chevrolet aero kits at Barber Motorsports Park prior to the start of the season.

Defending Series’ champion, Team Chevy’s Will Power is a two-time winner of the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. It was Power who delivered the Chevrolet IndyCar V6 engine’s first Barber win in 2012, and also won the event in 2011. His Team Penske teammate, Helio Castroneves, took the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama win in 2010.

“Team Chevy heads into Birmingham, Alabama this weekend bringing solid momentum from a strong showing on the streets of Long Beach,” said Chris Berube, Chevrolet Racing Program Manager for the Verizon IndyCar Series. “Barber Motorsports Park is a beautiful permanent road course with typically the highest grip level on the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule which makes it a bookend venue for assessing road course aero kit performance. Our Chevy IndyCar V6 is dialed in to work together with the Chevrolet Aero Kit to produce reliable power, strategically good fuel economy and effective drivability. Pairing this with the execution levels of the four Chevrolet teams and drivers has us feeling optimistic for a good result on Sunday.”

The Indy Grand Prix of Alabama is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. ET Sunday, April 26, with live television coverage on NBC Sports Network.
