Denver, N.C. – With three big races in June, the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Championship battle is heating up quickly. Action Express Racing has been preparing for the busy stretch of races for months, and is looking forward to putting that preparation to good use with a strong run in the Diamond Cellar Classic at Mid-Ohio this Saturday.

The team will arrive at the classic natural terrain 2.2-mile road course with some podium momentum after the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP shared by Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi finished second in the Chevrolet 200 in Detroit.

The sister No. 9 Corvette DP of Burt and Brian Frisselle didn’t get the result they were on track for in the Motor City, but the team effort that went into making sure the duo both received championship points was a highlight that underscored the “two cars, one team” mantra of Action Express Racing.

Since Action Express Racing first hit the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series championship in 2010, the team has two top-five finishes at Mid-Ohio to its credit, including a run to third last year.

An ultra-tight championship battle reflects the competitive nature of the Rolex Series, with just a handful of points separating the top positions as the team will look to make the most of the weekend with both Corvette DP entries.

“The first few races of this year, we felt like we were working well as a team and executing on our plans, but we just didn’t produce the results,” said Action Express Racing team manager Gary Nelson.

“Getting the podium in Detroit felt like a much better reflection of what this team is capable of. With three events on three different kinds of tracks in one month, our guys are ready for the challenge.”

The Diamond Cellar Classic opens on Friday with practice and qualifying. Saturday’s 2 hour, forty-five minute race will broadcast LIVE on SPEED, 4:30 PM ET.
