Fuoco's benchmark of 1m55.135s, set in the morning, ended up as the best time of the day's running - as afternoon pacesetter Aitken, testing with Arden, came up just 0.03s short.

In the first session, Ferrari junior Fuoco, spending his second day with Trident, overhauled Arden duo Jake Dennis and Charles Leclerc - and while both improved late on, they came up short.

Formula Renault 2.0 graduates Matevos Isaakyan, Aitken and Jake Hughes all ended the morning well within a tenth of third-placed Leclerc.

While Fuoco then went on to lead much of the afternoon, he was passed by Dennis entering the final half-hour - and both were then demoted by Aitken.

Further improvements looked on the cards, but the session was over early when Will Palmer found the barriers.

Kevin Jorg ended the run fourth behind Trident teammate Fuoco, just ahead of Hughes and Leclerc, the latter once more making it three Arden cars in the top six.

ART's high-profile newcomers Nyck de Vries and Alex Albon were only 15th and 16th in the first session, but moved up in the afternoon - de Vries taking 12th and Albon seventh.
