The first race of the GP2 Spanish weekend was based on show and surprise, but also a lot of bad luck for the DAMS driver Stéphane Richelmi.
At the start, the Monegasque started in the 1st row, thanks to the excellent performance in qualifying yesterday where he won the 2nd place behind his team-mate Ericsson. In the firsts laps there was immediately a great "bagarre" among the 26 drivers on the track with the foot pointed on the accelerator.
To avoid the contact, Richelmi initially lost two positions, but he has maintained a controlled and strategic driving focused to the final goal. In fact, on the 9th lap, he is gone to the pits to change tires, and then he began the recovery on track climbing the classification.
On lap 24, Dillmann, in an attempt to overtake, has touched the Richlemi's car. The DAMS driver had to continue his race with damaged car, losing different positions and then he cut the checkered flag in 15th position.
Tomorrow the second race of the weekend will take place at 10.35 am, still live on Sky Sports F1.
