The Monegasque confirmed to be unbeatable at the getaway: started from the fifth spot of the grid instead of the fourth due to the penalty issued by stewards to Palmer (Carlin) last evening. Coletti overtook all the cars ahead of him in the long straight of the Spanish track starting a short duel with Johnny Cecotto (Arden International) that gave him the race leadership.

Coletti's pace was unmatchable by the rivals since the beginning and it allowed Stefano to pull away progressively increasing his gap to Frijns (Hilmer) and Nasr (Carlin) which reached the four seconds. Coletti managed the race afterwards until the flag as the top three did not change. The finish line welcomed an important victory for Coletti's classification as he also set the fastest lap of the race during lap three (1'33.727).

Coletti strengthened his classification lead reaching 93 points. Nasr follows in second at 76 and Leimer in third at 54.

Stefano Coletti:
"The car has been very competitive since Friday and I knew I could aim to the victory. The start has been very good once again and I decided to attack Ceccotto at turn one to prevent difficulties in the subsequent stages. Once I got the lead I pushed in the first lap to gain a safety margin to Frijns but also to set the fastest lap of the race that is worth some important points for the classification. After that I drove trying to preserve tyres managing the accumulated advantage in the finale where my thoughts flew far away from the track for a few instants. In the days leading to the weekend of Barcelona I unfortunately had to say farewell to my grand-dad Alberto and to my friend Cristophe and this victory is dedicated to them".

The GP2 Series will resume next 26 May in Monaco, a round that awaits Stefano Coletti as protagonist on his home streets.
