Ceccon Flies In GP2 Testing
Now He's Ready For The Auto GP Title Fight
Kevin Ceccon keeps posting impressive performances: the Italian young gun, who at just 17 managed to clinch the Auto GP Under 21 title in dominant fashion, boasted another staggering drive. As a prize for winning in the Auto GP "youngster" standings, Kevin had the chance to driver again the Scuderia Coloni GP2 car, taking part in the Series tests in Jerez together with some of the best talents in international motorsport. There, he confirmed his talent and skills posting the fifth quickest time of the two-days.It was a really staggering performance, even more considering that GP2 is the championship that in the last six seasons proved to be the best F1 feeder series, an hyper-competitive contest in which Ceccon was immediately able to shine.Besides the great performance, Ceccon had the chance to gather valuable experience working with the Italian team on different set-up solutions and completing some race simulations. So there's a lot to be happy for, but Ceccon's work isn't over yet. After the test Kevin flew back to Italy, then travelling to Mugello where in the weekend he will try to clinch the Auto GP overall title. The Italian leads the Championship with a 7 points gap on Afanasiev and 15 points more than third placed Filippi.
Kevin Ceccon: “I'm really satisfied with the outcome of this test. After a first day devoted to race simulations I was looking forward to the morning session in qualifying trim, and it went well. My feeling with the car is getting better and better compared to my early season races, now I can really drive the GP2/11 on the limit. The fifth quickest time of the two days is a good result, and we could have been even quicker: with the first set of tyres I found some traffic, while with the second I did a pair of mistakes that prevented me from improving. Then in the afternoon, with a lot of fuel, we were ninth which is again very good, considering that we were the only ones in the top pack not using new tyres. Now I have to focus on my primary aim for this season, the Auto GP title.I'm ready to do my best, knowing that being the Series leader doesn't mean that the fight is already won. My rivals won't make it easy, but I'm ready to face them".
