The FIA will now take control of all technical aspects related to the FIA F3 World Cup, including the regulations, entries and registration.
As such, the F3 race joins the GT event at Macau in taking on World Cup status, which the latter event has held since 2015.
Due to this development, long-time organising consultant Barry Bland – who has been instrumental to the event's success since it switched to F3 cars in 1983, when it was won by Ayrton Senna – has discontinued his involvement.
In a statement, the Macau Grand Prix Organising Committee said it “respects Mr. Bland’s decision and would like to convey its appreciation for his many years of contribution and valued service”.
It also expressed its gratitude to the FIA’s trust and support, and pledged to follow its guidance to ensure that the race “will be organized to the same high international standards as in previous years”.
The entry list for the 63rd edition of the event that runs on the streets of the former Portuguese enclave, which is now a Special Administrative Region of China, will be announced in October.
