After dominating the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour last year, Michelin is once again proving to be the tyre of choice with over 70 per cent of the field confirmed as running Michelin tyres already.

2013 race winners Erebus Motorsport was the first team to place their tyre order for this year’s race. Speaking at a shakedown test at Phillip Island last week, Barry Ryan said that for them, the choice was easy.

“The performance of our Michelin tyres was key in our success at Bathurst in 2013, so there was never any doubt that we would choose to partner with Michelin again,” said Barry Ryan Erebus Motorsport General Manager.

“Being able to comfortably double stint without sacrificing any performance characteristics or taking any safety risks during the race really helped get our SLS AMG GT3 home and to win our first Bathurst 12 hour.

“With Michelin tyres and the support of the Michelin technicians at the track, we feel confident of another strong performance for the partnership in this year’s race.”

The outstanding durability and performance of the Michelin tyres was clear for all to see during last year’s race. Not only were Erebus Motorsport able to run for more than a quarter of the race without having to stop to change their tyres, they did so when the track temperature peaked at over 60 degrees. They also found they were able to set fast lap times right up until they changed the tyres.

This performance was not isolated to Erebus Motorsport with 8 of the top 10 in the 2013 race, including the race winners running Michelin tyres. It was the total performance, including safety and durability, of the Michelin tyres that delivered these impressive results up and down the pit lane.

The success of Michelin’s partners world-wide is a result of the work undertaken by Michelin to ensure that its tyres work in perfect harmony with its partners’ cars.

Michelin’s engineers design solutions capable of delivering high performance over long periods of time without sacrifice. Durability and performance are often viewed as conflicting qualities, however, thanks to Michelin technologies, they can be reconciled and this approach lies at the very heart of the Group’s research and development strategy, Michelin Total Performance.
