Last year's DTM runner-up Edoardo Mortara became the first of Mercedes' six 2017 drivers to be named last October, when his move across from Audi was announced.

Now the Stuttgart marque has unveiled the rest of its drivers, with Robert Wickens, Gary Paffett, Paul di Resta and Lucas Auer all being retained for another season.

They are joined by Venturi Formula E driver Engel, who previously raced for Mercedes in DTM from 2008-11.

The German however faces two calendar clashes as the all-electric championship's visits to Paris and Brussels both co-incide with DTM rounds.

"I definitely have some unfinished business with the DTM," said Engel.

"I am very pleased that I've been able to battle my way back into the squad over the past few years and that I now have a chance to prove myself in the coming season."

Maximilian Gunther, who is expected to remain with the Prema European Formula 3 squad, will act as reserve and test driver.

Of Mercedes' 2016 line-up, Dani Juncadella, Christian Vietoris and Maxi Gotz have been dropped, while Felix Rosenqvist was also passed over for a seat.

All six Mercedes drivers will be run by the HWA team, following the exit of both the Mucke and ART squads from the series.
