On Saturday, 9th August, DTM will showcase itself from 12:00 to 16:00hrs CEST (11:00 to 15:00hrs BST) with a colourful stage program on the ‘Neumarkt’. Visitors who come to this marketplace located in the heart of the city will have the chance of witnessing the activities of DTM drivers Nico Müller (Audi), Bruno Spengler (BMW) and local hero Christian Vietoris (Mercedes-Benz) from Lissendorf / Eifel at close range.
And those who want to witness the entire field of the planet’s best touring car drivers live and in action definitely should make a trip to the Nürburgring, on the following weekend. From 15th to 17th August, the Eifel will be the venue of the seventh round of the 10-race DTM season and another thriller in the battle for the championship lead is guaranteed. After all, the season to date featured numerous spectacular and entertaining races, with four drivers having made it to the highest step on the podium, so far.
23 drivers, among them six former champions plus the reigning DTM Champion, are battling it out for the race wins, in DTM’s anniversary season. DTM is celebrating its 30th anniversary, this year and so, the German premium-car manufacturers involved, DTM, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, do not only showcase there 2014 DTM racers, on Cologne’s ‘Neumarkt’ but also historic DTM cars.
The program of DTM’s Cologne appearance on Saturday comprises autographing sessions, interviews, competitions and music as well as photo shoots with the grid girls. Meanwhile, the DTM drivers, Müller, Spengler and Vietoris, will be accompanied by colleagues racing in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship and the German Porsche Carrera Cup to provide the visitors with an extensive prospect of the race action they will be able to witness at the Nürburgring.
At the ‘DTM Showtruck’, experts representing DEKRA and the Nürburgring Driving Safety Centre (where driving-safety courses allow you to learn to realise and practice dangerous situations you possibly may have to cope with in the day-to-day traffic) inform the visitors on safety topics. How, for instance, to get out of a crashed car that landed on its roof – a situation that even can be practiced by the visitors in the ADAC rollover simulator.
At the end if the day, the trip to the ‘Neumarkt’ provides far more than just a prospect of the motor-racing highlight at the Nürburgring on the following weekend. The exhibits also draw the visitors’ attention to the topic safety – on both the racetrack and public roads.
