The MRW rider finished second in the last stage, of 29 kilometers, and confirms his second overall position in the 2012 Dakar After nearly 9,000 kilometers, three countries and 13 timed stages, the 2012 Dakar's curtain finally dropped. It was an amazingly close and competitive edition, where Marc Coma achieved the second position after getting five stage victories and facing the always difficult challenge of making it to the end in one piece. The MRW rider crossed today the Finish line, which was located for the first time in Lima, Peru.
The exciting duel between Marc Coma and Cyril Despres during all the competition nearly finished yesterday with the MRW rider out of the race. With the gearbox broken after the effort of the previous days, the Spanish rider was able to complete the stage and save a well-deserved second position. There were only today's 288 kilometres left, 29 of them timed, to arrived to the Peru capital, where there was no margin for a surprise.
Coma completed the timed stage in 23 minutes and 34 seconds, 1 minute and 8 seconds behind Pal Anders Ullevalseter, winner of this last stage of the Dakar. Tough and ruthless as always, the ultimate race of this sport lived again up to its legend and the MRW rider finished second, 53 minutes and 20 seconds behind Cyril Despres, due to a 45 minute penalty for changing the gearbox of his KTM. After the stage the award ceremony was held in Lima and Marc Coma received the bronze touareg for his second position in one of the closest editions in the motorcycles category.
