With just under a fortnight to go until the opening three rounds of the revised Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, former title winning team Double R Racing can today, Tuesday, 14th May, confirm a three car entry.

Antonio Giovinazzi and Sean Gelael, who both currently race with Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt’s squad in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, will dovetail the four event British F3 campaign with their existing commitments.

Italian 19-year-old Giovinazzi, who won the Formula Pilota China title in 2012 with five victories and six other podiums, has been incredibly quick so far in his maiden F3 season. Challenging for points finishes on several occasions, the category rookie is easily one of the most spectacular newcomers.

Gelael, who is likely to be the youngest driver in British F3 at just 16-years-old, is also in his maiden season at Formula 3 level having finished fourth overall in Formula Pilota China last year. Taking one outright win, the Indonesian also emerged as runner-up in the ‘Best Asian Driver Trophy’ class.

Double R’s third driver for British F3 is yet to be confirmed but an announcement regarding the signing is expected in the coming days. Team principal Hieatt says the squad will definitely have a full three car line-up for the opening races at Silverstone on 25th/26th May.

“We’re really glad to be back in British F3”, he commented, “It’s going to be great experience for Antonio and Sean, they both need as much track time as they can get in their first year. We will have three cars out at Silverstone, hopefully we’ll be able to confirm who our third driver will be in the next few days.

“We’ve always been keen to support British F3, we always wanted to remain part of it, and we’re delighted to be able to confirm our involvement. Hopefully the championship will have the strong grid of cars it deserves.”

Following the opening three rounds at Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium will host the second event of the British F3 season on 26th/27th July with Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit the next track on the schedule on 10th/11th August. Germany’s Nurburgring will be the venue for the series finale on 21st/22nd September.

Double R’s next track action will come with rounds 10, 11 and 12 of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit this coming weekend, 18th/19th May.
