Rebellion at Sebring: Lola-Toyotas fastest in final test session

Close fight in P2 between Level 5, Greaves. Tomorrow is the opening day for the Twelve Hours of Sebring starting with official practice.

Rebellion Racing held the top two spots at the end of Wednesday’s final test session for the 61st Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida. Only 0.531 seconds separated the team’s pair of Lola-Toyota coupes with the No. 13 of Mathias Beche, Congfu “Frankie” Cheng and Andrea Belicchi going quickest at 1:48.256 (124.372 mph).

The No. 12 entry of Nico Prost, Nick Heidfeld and Neel Jani sat second at 1:48.787 (123.765 mph), followed by Muscle Milk Pickett Racing’s No. 6 Honda Performance Development ARX-03c. The car of Klaus Graf, Lucas Luhr and Romain Dumas posted a time of 1:48.864 (123.677 mph).

The closest class battle of the session came from P2. Level 5 Racing’s No. 551 HPD ARX-03b of Scott Tucker, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Simon Pagenaud set the best lap – 1:54.576 (117.512 mph) for a 0.052-second gap back to Greaves Motorsport’s No. 41 Zytek-Nissan of Tom Kimber-Smith, Eric Lux and Christian Zugel.

Level 5’s second entry – the No. 552 of Tucker, Marino Franchitti and Ryan Briscoe – was third-fastest in P2 at 1:55.297 (116.777 mph).

In GT, Risi Competizione’s No. 62 Ferrari F458 with drivers Olivier Beretta, Matteo Malucelli and Gianmaria Bruni turned the class’ fastest lap at 2:01.213 (111.077 mph). It was only slightly ahead of Paul Miller Racing’s No. 48 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Bryce Miller, Marco Holzer and Richard Lietz with a 2:01.383 (110.922 mph). The No. 17 Porsche from Team Falken Tire was third at 2:01.773 (110.566 mph); Bryan Sellers, Wolf Henzler and Nick Tandy are splitting driving duties.

CORE autosport’s No. 05 ORECA FLM09 led Prototype Challenge presented by Continental Tire with a 1:55.700 (116.370 mph) in the car that Colin Braun, Jon Bennett and Mark Wilkins share. PR1/Mathiasen’s No. 52 entry of Motorsports’ David Cheng, Mike Guasch and David Ostella was second with a 1:56.472 (115.599 mph), followed by Performance Tech Motorsports’ No. 500 prototype of Tristan Nunez, Charles Shears and David Heinemeier-Hansson with a 1:56.615 (115.457 mph).

Alex Job Racing led GT Challenge with a 2:06.563 (106.382 mph) in the No. 22 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for Cooper MacNeil, Jeroen Bleekemolen and Dion von Moltke. The No. 45 Porsche of Nelson Canache, Spencer Pumpelly and Brian Wong from Flying Lizard Motorsports was second at 2:06.758 (106.218 mph).

TRG’s No. 66 Porsche of Craig Stanton, Ben Keating and Damien Faulkner was another half-second back in third.

The first official practice for the 61st Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida is set for 10:15 a.m. ET on Thursday.
