In today's International Sports Car Weekend race at Circuit of the Americas, Flying Lizard finished in 5th and 7th places after a rare caution-free run from start to finish. The PR Newswire / eSilicon No 44, driven by Seth Neiman and Dion von Moltke, finished in 7th place with Dion taking the fastest GTC class race lap.
The Venezuela / eSilicon No 45, driven by Nelson Canache Jr. and Spencer Pumpelly, finished in 5th place after falling back from a podium spot due to fuel pump issues late in the race.Nelson moved the No 45 up four positions in the race's opening laps, eventually turning the car over to Spencer at the 1-hour mark. Spencer was able to hold station in 3rd place through his first and second stints before the team was forced to call the car into the pits for fuel with only twelve minutes remaining in the race. That stop dropped the car into 5th place with no hope of regaining the lost positions.
Seth started the No 44 and ran a full one hour and twenty minutes before handing the car over to Dion for the run to the finish. Dion set and re-set the fast race lap time three different times and brought the car home for 7th place points.
With two races remaining in the 2013 American Le Mans Series season, Flying Lizard leads the team championship by 10 points with Spencer and Nelson just 4 points back in the driver championship.
Steve Conover, Chief Engineer: "The track varied widely all week in terms of what was required of the tires and the chassis. With the very rainy conditions in one session and cool, damp conditions in another, plus hot and dry weather for the race, it was very challenging to keep the setup and tire pressures in particular on target. We made some guesses even stint-to-stint during the race on starting pressures and adapted as well as we could to conditions to give the drivers as much performance as possible."
Dion von Moltke, Driver, No 44: "We had the fastest car out there today and it was just perfect through my two stints. Seth did a great job coming up to speed at this new track but traffic was absolutely brutal during his stint. We did learn a lot this weekend and are looking to come back strong at VIR."
Nelson Canache Jr., Driver, No 45: "We didn't necessarily have the weekend that we wanted to but even given all of the struggles we still made up ground in the championship and that was the objective coming into the race. We are now four points back and are looking to continue in a positive direction as we pursue the championship this year."
Flying Lizard next visits the racetrack for the 9th round of the 2013 ALMS season for the Oak Tree Grand Prix at the Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia, on October 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
