BAYTOWN, Tex- Federal Mogul Dragster driver Jeff Wilson qualified number one
and beat local racer Troy Buff in the final at the O'Reilly Nationals
presented by Pennzoil this weekend at Houston Raceway Park. Wilson strapped
a perfect .400 light to Buff and never looked back, running 5.481/260.06 to
Buff's trailing 5.562/257.14, to win his first ever national event.
The race was Wilson's first on the year, and came into the race with a
complete new combination. It didn't take long for the Winfield, Missouri
driver to figure the combination out, stunning the field with a low
qualifying 5.434/258.17.
"We just changed the gear, went to the new Hoosier tires with beadlocks,
changed to the new PSI injector that everyone has, and went to the single mag
set up. We figured we needed to find some performance to keep up with the
A/fuel cars, and everything just fell together," explained Wilson. "I would
like to give a special thanks to my sponsor Starcon, and the Jay Meyer crew
for helping us put the car back together after the semi's," Wilson said.
Wilson's next race will be the first stop on the Division 3 Federal Mogul
Drag Racing Series at Indianapolis Raceway Park, April 28-30. Wilson will be
looking to win the series opener, and improve on his performance level in
Houston.
"I think we still have a little more left in it. We will have our smaller
motor ready, so we will be able to take some weight off the car, and
hopefully that will enable us to go a little quicker," said Wilson.
