Mugello, race two: Richelmi and Campana award team Lucidi with a one-two

25/07/2010 - Stephane Richelmi ends the fourth round of the season of Italian Formula 3 Championship held at Mugello with a victory obtained thanks to a dashing start from the third position of the grid, preceeding in this occasion his team mate Sergio Campana.

At the back of the driver from Modena, Samuele Buttarelli (Prema Powerteam) confirmed himself as a great protagonist of the weekend and obtained the third place of the podium as well as the fastest lap of the race after starting seventh on the grid obtained by the inversion of the first eight positions in the qualifying. Thanks to the fourth place in race 2, Cesar Ramos (BVM-Target) keeps the second position in the championship, right at the back of Daniel Mancinelli (Team Ghinzani), sixth today in front of Richelmi and Andrea Caldarelli (Prema Powerteam) who did not manage to go beyond the seventh place due to the strenuous resistance opposed for most part of the race by the American Gabriel Chaves (Eurointernational), eighth at the end and once again first among the rookies. The Swiss Christopher Zanella (JD Motorsport) managed to come out skillfully from the bagarre for the fifth place on the first Mygale crossing the finish line.

Thanks to the results on the Tuscan track, turning point of the prestigious Italian series powerd by FPT Racing, Mancinelli, Ramso, Richelmi and Caldarelli remain on top of the classification, all within 12 points.

At the start of race 2 Richelmi showed more determination than the others and got on the lead to Campana, Chavez, Buttarelli and the poleman Liberati who slipped down to the fifth place in front of Ramos and Caldarelli. An accident on the back of the grid involved the faultless two single seaters of RC Motorsport driven by Roda and Vervish and required the safety car deployment during lap one. At the green flag, exposed three laps afterwards, Campana managed to get rid with some difficulties of the group of followers composed by Chaves, Buttarelli, Ramos and Caldarelli, while Mancilelli went wide and left the ninth position to Krohn.

The fight for the third position was fought by a very long row of single seaters, compacted by Chaves who had to overtaken by Buttarelli during lap six at San Donato corner. The rhythm of the young American did not appear to be irresitible and at the following corner Ramos tried and performed the overtaking at the Palagio corner leaving the group at the back of the Mygale.Chaves, did not give way to rivals and Caldarelli attacked several times in front of Zanella, Liberati, Mancinelli, getting back to the ninth position, Krohn, Bizzarri, Barri, Lee, Cerqui, Fontana, Raimondo, Giovesi and Palmeri 18th, but just 5 points adrift the fifth position held by the driver of Eurointernational . Zanella managed to get back to the fifth position, while the game of slipstreams and trajectory changes allowed Mancinelli to overtake Caldarelli for the eighth position at the back of Chaves during lap 11. At the following lap, the driver of Team Ghinzani managed to get in sixth position, while Richelmi, on the lead of the race, Campana, Buttarelli and Ramos proceeded with a bit more than four seconds margin. In the race's finale, the rhythm was very high but positions did not change up to the chequered flag where the positions at the back got defined with Chaves that managed to defend the eight place in front of the row of the ten cars driven by Liberati, Krohn, Bizzarri, Barri, Lee, Giovesi, Cerqui, Palmeri, Raimondo and Fontana, 18th.
