Brumos Racing Announces Return for 2010 to Grand-Am Rolex Series
Jacksonville, FL: Following their exciting victory in the Grand-Am Rolex
Series finale event in Homestead, Brumos Racing is well on their way to
carrying momentum from that win into 2010. Brumos, now standing alone as
the only team to compete in every Grand-Am race since the inception of
the DP program in 2003, is pleased to confirm their continued commitment
to the Grand-Am Rolex Series DP program.
With a racing legacy now spanning over fifty years, the Brumos name
is synonymous with tradition and continuity, and there is likely no
car more widely associated with sports car racing than the classic
Brumos #59. In keeping with those values, Brumos fans will be pleased
to see the Brumos Racing #59 Porsche Riley back on track in 2010 in
the familiar white, red and blue colors that have long been the Brumos
tradition. In a departure from previous years, however, Brumos will
consolidate its efforts in the upcoming season by campaigning only their
#59 car.
Brumos owner Dan Davis spoke of plans for 2010, saying, "In response to
the current economic climate, we have chosen to focus on one car for
2010, and we are very pleased to have David Donohue and Darren Law as
our full-time #59 car drivers. At the same time, we cannot overlook the
past contributions of the other valued members of the Brumos driving
team. We regret that J.C. France will not be driving with us this
season, and we support him as he works to return to the series. Joao
Barbosa is one of the finest drivers in racing and we are pleased that
he will be returning full-time to Grand-Am DP competition in 2010,
joined by another Brumos veteran, Terry Borcheller. Details on this new
team are still being finalized and will be announced in the near future.
We are certainly looking forward to competing in 2010 and hope to kick
off the season as repeat winners of the Rolex 24 at Daytona."
The complete Rolex 24 driver lineup is still being finalized, but it is
hard to think of the 24 Hours of Daytona and the Brumos #59 car without
thinking of Brumos' own Hurley Haywood. The endurance racing legend and
five-time Daytona 24 winner will return to join Donohue and Law for his
final Rolex 24 bid, saying, "I have spent the better part of my 40+
year racing career behind the wheel of a Brumos #59 car, so it is only
fitting that I drive our #59 Porsche Riley in what will be my last shot
for my sixth career Rolex 24 win. Darren & David have proven their value
to our team over the years, so you could say I am `stacking the deck' in
joining them to defend our Rolex 24 Championship. With their level of
skill and determination, we expect to win many races this season, and
I hope the Rolex 24 will be the first of many." David Donohue, heading
into his eighth season as a Brumos driver, said, "I've always been proud
to be part of Brumos and its history, and winning the Rolex 24 last year
in Brumos colors was by far the highlight of my professional career,
as well as meaning a tremendous amount to me personally.2010 will be
another step forward, as Darren and I will be sharing the famous #59.
Having my name next to Hurley's, my good friend for the past seventeen
years, is incredible. I really want to make him proud. There is an extra
motivation in all this that is beyond words I am excited and proud."
Darren Law is equally excited about what will be his seventh year
co-driving with Donohue. "Brumos has such a storied history in racing
and #59 has always represented a winning program for Brumos. I remember
watching Hurley Haywood take the #59 to many victories and am honored
to have the opportunity to carry on the tradition. Winning the Rolex 24
last year was the biggest accomplishment of my career and now we are
preparing not only to defend our win, but to go for the Championship. I
am very proud to be a part of this program, and look forward to keeping
Brumos' winning tradition alive.
The 2010 season kicks off with the "Roar Before the 24" test days and
fan event at Daytona International Speedway on January 8th 10th, 2010,
followed by the Rolex 24 race to be held on January 30th - 31st.
