Bahrain Grand Prix driver ratings

A mentally exhausting Bahrain GP proved a stern test of Formula 1 drivers' mental steel, and several stepped up to the plate with noteworthy performances - although one faultless drive went ultimately unrewarded

Lewis Hamilton – 10

Another superb performance from Hamilton, who feels he has gained now the title battle pressure has lifted. Despite a less than ideal build up to qualifying, thanks to Mercedes' efforts to learn the 2021 rubber coming at the expense of set-up work and long-run data gathering, he dominated to take pole. Was brilliant in the race – nailing the various starts and managing his tyres to perfection.

Max Verstappen – 9

Possibly a fraction harsh considering his weekend performance, but he just misses a maximum score for not keeping Bottas off the front row. The 0.289s gap between the Mercedes pair and being ahead after the first runs in Q3 show he had a chance. Raced brilliantly, defending from Perez at the second start and generally harrying Hamilton throughout with a car that handled like a "kangaroo" early on.
